... Actually you're right, mate.

... YOU have surely been a voice of reason 'round here
with the Pirates... But I grow frustrated with what
seem to me to be piss-poor management decisions.

I totally agree Salty I'm very frustrated with the penny pinching nothing is more important than the bottom line approach that management has. It's not fair to the fans or the city. But even though it sickens and bothers me immensely I'll never give up on my beloved team.

... And you shouldn't, Felix.

... You and our other mates SHOULD
hold the barrack for the hometowne team.

The Pirates DO need all the support
they can muster - even with shoddy ownership.

... But the Nuttings and everyone else
involved over there surely need to remember
- that THE PEOPLE of Pittsburgh "GAVE"
them a NEW stadium.
THAT - is what was said that they needed
to "compete" spending-wise with the other
"mid-range" baseball teams of the Pirate's ilk.

And the NEW stadium has been here, what?
- a good 15 years? ... And how many
winning seasons and play-off years
have you seen? :|

... So perhaps you mates can understand
the frustration.

Idk I like this dickerson. If he can find his first half mojo from last year, I think the Bucs will be able to replace the run production and power numbers lost by Cutch. Is it possible there could be a method to Huntington's madness?? Time will tell. In the end it will still be up to pitching.

On a side note, this thread just doesn't have the same feel without Steeler69 on here losing his shit. :D

I have certainly been a naysayer but I more or less feel exactly the same. I also don’t think they will be horrible this year. As is, I think they will be 75-80 wins. I think the season will feel similar to 2016. If they were to add a pitcher, and there are still a few available, I think they could be 80-85. I wouldn’t predict it but I think if a ton goes wrong for teams like Milwaukee or St.Louis it could happen.
It's fun to have fun but you have to know how.

man, I give some of you guys alot of credit for being die hard pirate fans................... i'm sorry but as long as the nuttings are owners the pirates are not going to ever have the talent to compete for a world series.
its a shame because pittsburgh is a proven baseball. I would joke and call them the cleveland browns of baseball but that would be a smack in the face of cleveland because they at least try.

nutting is a lousy owner in terms of thinking about the fans and the team actually becoming a winner

who would of thought it if you are old enough to remember the days of stargell and the great one, clemente

on a side note, i was listening to ron cook on the radio giving his opinion that in his mind, barry bonds was a much better ball player than clemente............... i say bullshit and bonds can stick his steroids up his ass
some people I know have their head so far up their ass, everytime they burp, them give themselves a prostate massage

Billy dont put too much stock on spring training stats. Especially for batters. They are hitting off pitchers who are still weeks away from their arms finding their mojo. (Except Glasnow)

Also do you recall a player named Brad Eldred for the Bucs? I think he went by the nickname big country. Anyways, he tore the shit out of spring training and went nowhere in the majors. As a matter of fact he is playing in Japan the last I heard or he could be the attendant at my local sunoco.

I really don't care if the Pirates contend or not. I get to maybe 5 games each season and in an 81 game season at home, your team can win the pennant and you see them lose 5 games, or they are the worst team in baseball and you may see 5 victories, so what does it matter. Most of us can't afford or won't pay the post-season prices for baseball so what does THAT matter. I go to see baseball to remember a time when just going to see major league baseball and enjoy watching some of the games best players was such a wonderful experience. And since I loved watching starting pitchers that actually finished their games, that era is gone and we have to accept that 5 innings is a "quality" start. What bullshit!!! If you saw Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Warren Spahn or even Whitey Ford, what now passes for great pitching is somewhat pitiful, so to hell with worrying about our small market team. Just make sure that the sun is shining, the seats are good and the beer is cold. Enjoy the season, whatever that may be.

... Nah, ... I been watchin' yer baseball for
a few years now, mates - and the constant
chatter is on "how the game has changed"...

Pitching the baseball is completely different now.
In the golden days - blokes would step-in to hit
and swing at anything. - While now, it's not
even considoured a "good at-bat" if the batter
dont work 8 or 9 pitches - no matter WHAT the outcome.

One o' the Padres hitters was FINED by his
Manager for swinging at the second pitch
and hitting a home run! :) :?

The Manager complained that if the bloke
would have WAITED and hit it as the eighth pitch of
the at-bat - the ball surely would o' carryed further!

Blaspheme, blaspheme. Go away go away arrrrghhhh I can't hear you! This noise is hurting my head. Stoppppp!!!!

Lol actually I agree with pretty much everything after your first sentence. Pitching today has become so specialized. The salary has changed the concept of pitching. A prime example was when Washington pulled the plug on Strasbergs season early to conserve his arm for possible playoffs a few years ago.

It's why I think Max Scherzer - is the best in the game - - they let this guy just go out there n throw the ball - he almost always is around in the 7-8-9 no Matter WTF the Pitch count is

Every arm is different. Scherzer is real good but I am of the belief the Kershaw is the best out there in recent years.

yea every arm is different - but Scherzer for me is a throwback pitcher like the guys from the 60s
solid gives you the innings etc
i cant argue with you about Kershaw - he would do in a pinch lol

... Hey Billy - did I ever mention that Trump
("President TRUMP") was on his Military School
baseball team? ... He wasn't a pitcher, he played
at third base... In fact, he was SO GOOD that
some people used to say he was BORN there... :)

Might be a true story... :drink:

It's opening day!!! The day that every team is even and hope springs eternal. I think the Pirates will be entertaining if not competitive. If everything breaks right we'll be flirting with 500 if not a win total somewhere in the 70s. In any event enjoy the next 6 months I know I will. Let's Go Bucs!
