I don't care that Haley is gone, but he wasn't the problem this year. I could think of 3 coaches that probably deserved to go before him. Butler, Porter, Lake

With Haley I do not believe it was as much to do with the X's and O's as it was the behaviors. The expiration of his contract is convenient timing. His behaviors probably had something to do with overall team discipline.

We will see what kind of impact this has if they keep the team somewhat intact for next season. And Ben is not getting any younger.

sometimes just a change makes the difference but i still feel the defense is still a weakness

sure they ran up some stats but it was against the 27 th toughest schedule (based on 2016 records)

ok what about the 2017 opponents records how about 116-140 with 5 games with teams with over 11 losses and 3 more with 9

The weakness is in the head coach and is history being unprepared, bad challenges, poor clock management, bad timeouts etc. Hell even their hurry up offense makes Stephen Hawking look like Usain Bolt.

He isn't going any where I looked it up last year of his contract and if they release him he counts 8 million against the cap. A team that is always up against the cap can't afford to take that hit

once little Ben said he was coming back for maybe 3 more years, you knew the fix was in and Hailey was long gone. Now - unless you promote from within - you bring in a new OC - that will take a bit of time to get everybody all on the same page. I wonder if the QB sits in on the interview process so he buys into the choice.

The way of the Pirates? Thats a little extreme. With the talent this team has, I could coach and still get a 9-7 record. I think the stillers will be fine, they just won't win a super bowl.

but Todd Haley will be out o' work
about twenny minutes.

... THIS surely may 'ave been planned
- to co-incide with his contract coming up.

He might have another offour already...

Haley always looked, and talked, like he's hungover. Maybe he was, and the Steelers wanted him out of the meeting rooms for good.

There's a medical reason for Tomlin's "bug-eyes" as you called them. Hope the same affliction doesn't strike you.

In the "Celebrate and Honor Martin Luther King, Jr. thread of a couple days ago you wrote "pass".
Today you chose to make sure you comment about AA Tomlin's "bug-eyes".
Am I seeing a common theme in your writing, Sir ?

Ya I'm seein a theme here. Sounds like your tryin to race bait. I noticed you had to stick the "AA" in front of Tomlin's name. Wonder why?? We all know he's black. Who cares. Just wonder what your point was with the AA? Also The guy stated he had bug eyes. He actually does. So what? How is that a racial thing? Whats the medical reason? Is it fatal? Will it shorten his life? Does it hinder him? Maybe he cant see the game clock. Should we consider him disabled? Ya know you can actually dislike Tomlin for his coaching abilities. Should 1for$ have said that? Idk, I'm not his mother. But not every disparaging remark is racially motivated. And yes I read the MLKjr thread all 4 posts.

As for Haley sounding lke he's hungover? Maybe its a medical thing. You got something against the caucasion Haley's mannerisms?

Lets keep to sports in the shports baaa

At the VERY least Porter should go also. If that doesn't happen it is only because Porter and Tomlin's relationship is too cozy.

And unfortunately I think Steeler69 is right.........Mitchell's contract makes it very tough to cut him. It is amazing how a guy that plays so average talks so damn much.

Perhaps he cannot see the game clock, he is not the best at managing it

On a different note, I heard the tail end of a comment about Ward joining the coaching staff?!?!

Anyone have info on this?

Bah- who cares about Haley. He made some bad calls, but overall the offense performed.

The defense was average when Shazier was in. Clearly with him out, their days were numbered. They had a senior citizen on their roster as DE until a couple weeks ago. I loved Harrison, but he's one of the best they had available? Defense is the problem, not the offense. New England would have embarrassed the Steelers had they won. Steelers will never, ever be able to stop their tight end on passes over the middle.

Heads should start rolling on the defensive side of the ball. That's where they need to improve, and so far, nothing.

Re: Bye Bye Todd Haley!

Postby chizzy on Thu Jan 18, 2018 6:32 pm

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly parting ways with offensive coordinator Todd Haley this offseason, but Haley may not be the only member of the team’s coaching staff that Ben Roethlisberger has had questions about. Apparently, not all is well between Big Ben and his head coach, either.

Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports Radio said Wednesday that sources have told him Roethlisberger is “massively frustrated” with Mike Tomlin. Big Ben was once again critical of Pittsburgh’s coaches during his weekly radio show Tuesday, and Cowherd said that was the quarterback’s way of seizing the opportunity to bash Tomlin now that the Steelers’ fan base is so angry with the head coach.

“Ben, I’ve got it sourced, isn’t happy,” Cowherd said. “He saw this as a rare opportunity — he’s so frustrated with a lack of discipline — to pile on. … By the way, limited partners are now pushing for a new coach and also concerned about the team’s lack of discipline. Ben is telling those close to him, ‘We’re not a group of grownups, the Patriots are.'”
Cowherd was referring a report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, which stated that some minority owners with the Steelers want Tomlin to be fired.
By Cowherd’s calculations, the comments Roethlisberger made this week about not being able to run certain plays marked the seventh time since October 2016 that he has publicly called out Tomlin. Roethlisberger also threw his coaches under the bus over a terrible play call earlier this season.
Tomlin made a number of situational mistakes in last weekend’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he has also been criticized for not being able to keep his players focused. Some would say Le’Veon Bell’s tweet last week about a rematch with the Patriots was a great example of that.
