Road Conditions In Pittsburgh Area

I had the great displeasure of traveling south on portions of Routes 51 and 88 after 5 PM today. How can it be that these two road can still be without a snow plow? Portions of 51 around the 88 intersection were terrible. Rt. 88 south to Castle Shannon looked like it had yet to see a plow. If you don't know the routes in the south of Pittsburgh you can't appreciate this. How the hell can these two roads not be treated given the volume of traffic flow? I'm at a loss to comprhend WTF is going on. How is your Township doing? FASBE

My area sucks, So I plowed most of my front street and alley with my quad. Then a guy from the street department told me I couldn't do that. Guess he didn't know the mayor is my neighbor.

so living next to the mayor has NO perks -- cant even get his own street plowed - or perhaps he figured if he did - he would catch all kinds of flack

i am about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh in OH - -but it appears throughout the area - there are pockets that have just not been cleared - some the result of abandoned cars - some power lines being down - some trees - and some because the manpower has just been overwhelmed - -

BTW - who is responsible for Rts. 51 and 88 - -city, county, state? therein might lie the problem

My township did great, roads were clear before the sun went down Saturday night. Neighboring townships and boroughs, appear to have laid off their entire road crews.

That's exactly it. We have the only alley in the town that is nicely black topped. He caught a lot of hell for that when it was done.

I can't say for sure but it makes no sense how those roads could be in the condition they were in. Hell, I don't know if the City has any removal equipment; I've never seen a plow. FASBE

I think it's been so long since we've had a "real" snowfall that we've forgotten what its like to actually have snow on the roads for more than a few hours. I remember being stuck at home for days back in '93.

How quickly can 60 plow trucks get to every road in the city?

That's funny, especially since Mayor Ravenstahl announced today that he wanted anyone with a plow on their truck to help out.
They're apparently overwhelmed.

200 yrs and they haven't figured out snow yet...........


My township is only doing the major roads, they plowed side streets once or twice since the storm but now they're just tossing a little salt now and then.
My street is a grey slushy mess.

It is bad, my street still hasn't been plowed. Luckily I still have power, and don't mind hanging out in my house for a few days lol

well I witnessed a local borough truck traveling on the state road that was covered with snow, and he had his plow UP !
I guess he figured it's not his job to do a state road??? It just doesn't make sense!
I could understand not wanting to use salt on it ...but come on just drop the plow while you're driving on it!

Ya fasbe I hear ya I ran out that way Sunday morning about 10am and coming off of 88 onto 51N there was some young kid stuck in what looked to be daddy or mommys caddy, just spining tire for about 30 seconds trying to rock it, but he had of dug himself a 6" ditch, he got out and kick the car, I went to the Valero for gas up 51s, came back and he had a shovel and was digging, I was gonna pull him w/ my ram but he looked like he was having some fun so I left him go!!!

Talk about mismanagement the city had no contingency plan in place....the funny part about it is that these idiots especially the boy-mayor fail to equate inaccessible roads with a loss of revenue for the city.
